Thus, the entire original crew you knew from the TV show returns. Although they are prepared to face the entity, nothing will prepare them for the ride to come. The film asks the question Paul Gauguin asks in a painting bearing this name: “Where do [I] come from? What [am I]? Where [am I] going?” Trekkers, note the appearance of Will Decker, the son of Matt Decker, who killed himself in the TV episode, “The Doomsday Machine”. The film can be summed up in a single word: beautiful.

Ok so in the beginning of this year I started thinking about this girl, she’s a grade above me and all signs point to her. I’ve ran into her in random places! A majority of the movies and shows I watch I end up saying to myself "wow that actress looks like Marie" (Girl I like…or idk) The problem is: is that I don’t think I like her! I’ve felt way more strongly about other women in my life. I could say I was maybe "in love" with them, but with Marie all I feel is like a little crush… buuuuuut… I find myself thinking about her way more than anything else! Usually I’m thinking about sex with super models, fast/hot cars, zombies, Music, badass movies!! (I’m a 17 year old guy if you hadn’t guessed) but for some reason all I think about now is MARIE!! So I guess my final question is: Why do I think about her SO much when I’ve had stronger feeling for past girls!?

Which film, Avatar or The Hurt Locker for the Oscar?
For Best Film and for Best Director
Honestly as much as I don’t want "Avatar" to receive best film, I believe it will. My favorite film of the year was "The Hurt Locker" which I think, Kathryn Bigelow will receive for Best Director. It happened in 2006 with "Crash" winning Best Picture and Ang Lee winning Best Director for "Brokeback Mountain"

Avatar was overrated. As much as I thoroughly enjoyed the film, that doesn’t make it "BEST picture." It was of course the most visually stunning film this year, but I don’t think that should be enough to let it come out with the award. I’m more of a story-line oriented film watcher, and the Hurt Locker had a great story and awesome characters (some of Avatar’s characters were simply laughable – I mean really, could you believe that "villain"?). I actually became more involved in The Hurt Locker because you could feel the tension and came to be interested in what happened to the characters, something I didn’t really get in Avatar. The only character I came to "care" about was the girl, Neytiri, who I think kind of carried the film (I really didn’t find myself caring too much whether the guy died or not. They just made him kind of unimportant, boring.)

To me, that’s more important. I simply didn’t leave Avatar asking any questions; the film felt so spoon-fed. There’s nothing to argue. Nothing to think about. Its like reading a picture book. An extremely enjoyable picture book, of course, in a guilty-pleasure kind of way.

Daughter throwing out of control temper tantrums?
My 8 year old step daughter is going through a stage of defiance and disrespect. My wife and I use spanking when needed and those two things earn a spanking in our house. Lately when I ask her to do something she throws a huge temper tantrum. The screaming and crying and yelling need to stop and she needs to understand that I will not tolerate that type of behavior, but I also don’t believe in spanking her while she is that upset. I’ve tried giving her just a few "warning swats" while she’s having her tantrum, but it doesn’t seem to work.

I am open to all suggestions at this point. Should I spank her while she’s having a fit? Should I wait until she’s calmed down? How do you get your kids to calm down when they are acting like this? We’ve tried ignoring her, putting her in her room, talking to her, grounding her, hugging her. NOTHING IS WORKING.

As the step parent, I would discourage you from giving her any spankings.

I have a guy friend that I have known for a couple of years. We’re pretty close.. he lives on my floor in our dorm, we hang out pretty much everyday and have the same group of friends. He came with my family to India over the summer and also spent Christmas with my family because his parents were out of the county. Hell, he even made me soup when I was sick ( yes, It was out of the can but still…….. : D) Basically, were pretty close.

I have feelings for him, but I never told him because he lives down the hall and we have the same group of friends. I didn’t want to make things awkward if the feelings weren’t mutual. Yesterday a few of us went to a concert, afterward we ended up hanging out at the beach where he kissed me, said he had liked me for a while and told me that we were going on a date the next day. I went home on cloud nine. I had just spent my Friday night making out on the beach in the rain with the guy that I have liked for months . I couldn’t even concentrate on my paper because I was anticipating our date the next day .

I went to his room to copy some notes from one of his roommates and I hear my name come up. So I did what any normal human being would do if they heard their name come up in conversation.. listened. Some may call this eavesdropping! His roommate asked him what was going on with us. He responded saying( his exact words), "I don’t know…..I guess nothing. I wouldn’t bring a black girl home, my parents would have a heart attack." Not that this should make a difference, but I’m half Ethiopian half Italian and East Indian. The ironic thing is that the roommate actually called me an hour later and asked me if I wanted to go to a film festival with him tonight.

He ( my friend) called me and left a message asking if we were still on for tonight . I texted him back canceling and he asked why. I told him that I thought there was "nothing going on between us". He’s has been calling me since saying that he’s sorry and that he didn’t mean it like that. My roommate must have told him that I went home because he showed up at my parents house. I had my parents tell him I wasn’t there. ( Very immature I know, but I was upset. ). One of my dorm-mates told me this afternoon that his great or great great grandfather was a big shot confederate general in the civil war and that this is a big deal in his family. I do know he’s from a wealthy family from the south, but the Civil War was a looooong time ago. The only family member of his that I have met is his sister who is a modern day hippie. She just married a Spanish man a few months back and her parents where not at the wedding.

It’s one thing for his parents to feel that way, I wouldn’t hold it against him, but it’s another for him to say " nothing’s going on, I wouldn’t bring a black girl home" to his roommate. We both have the same open-minded diverse group of friends. We spend so much time together that our friends are always making some sort of joke as why we aren’t together yet. I feel hurt, he’s really the last person I expected something like this from. He was the one who kissed me, said he had feelings for me, he initiated it. I don’t want to sound like I have my nose up in the air but, I’m an attractive girl with a likable personality. I’m a bio-chem major with a 3.8 GPA at a top university. I come from a good family, both of my parents are MD’s . I’m not some drug dealing crack-whore that hangs out on the street corner at night. On Christmas morning when my uncle asked me who the "stray white kid" sleeping on my floor was, I told him exactly where he could go even though he was half joking.

I keep replaying what he said to his roommate over and over in my head and over and over again I feel hurt and confused, like someone just came up to me and slapped me for no reason and I’m trying to figure out why. My dad says that I should hear him out . At the least for the sake of our friendship, but unfortunately my stubbornness is one of my less endearing qualities. Am I blowing this way out of proportion? He and I have been good friends for years and normally I feel like we could talk about anything under the sun, but now I’m not so sure.

But…maybe the guy’s parents are racist- in which case you have to think about whether you want to get serious with somebody whose family won’t accept you. That can cause so much stress.

But if he’s too scared to bring you home, then get rid of him. A grown man shouldn’t be afraid of what his parents think- not when they’re wrong. If he was bold enough to kiss you, he should be bold enough to love you regardless of what others think.

ah, that stubborn quality. I have it too and it really sometimes gets in the way of things. I say you should hear him out because obviously he has some kind of feelings for you if you’ve been friends for this long and he kissed you.

if his argument seems reasonable, i say you forgive and forget and if he still seems like a butthole just brush him off your shoulder. with a 3.8 GPA i’m sure you should be able to tell if it’s b.s. that he’s saying.

i know a lot of people with these racial problems b/c some people can’t get used to intermingling races but you’re just going to have to ignore everyone else and listen to each other. This is going to be a tough relationship if it does go somewhere just b/c you two are of different races so be prepared.
